Jathivanga boddhovumi and genocide

On March 25, 1971, the Pakistani army carried out a massacre of unarmed Bengalis in the name of 'Operation Searchlight'. It is an unprecedented killing in the world. According to the United Nations definition of genocide, the first four of the five characteristics of genocide occurred in the brutal killing of Pakistanis in 1971, but the genocide of Bangladesh has not yet been recognized internationally. Three million people were killed in this one of the worst genocides in the world. The killings were carried out with the help of the Pakistan Army and their allies, the Peace Committee, Razakar, Albadar and Alshams forces. Five thousand slaughterhouses or boddhovumi have been discovered since independence. Over a thousand have been identified. Numerous skulls, body bones, hair have been recovered from the slaughterhouse. These slaughterhouses are scattered all over the country. Jathivanga slaughter ground bears witness to the most brutal massacre in Thakurgaon district.

Jathivanga village in Kismat Sukanpukuri Mauza of Balia Union in Thakurgaon Sadar is now known as Vibdhapalli. Here on April 23, 1971, about three and a half thousand people were killed by the Pakistani army and their allies. After the declaration of independence, the invading forces with the help of Razakar, Al-Badr and Al-Shams started inhumane torture and killings on the freedom-seeking people. To escape from this torture, thousands of minority families from various villages of Thakurgaon: Balia, Shukhanpukuri, Jagannathpur, Chakhaldi, Singia, Chandipur, Basudebpur, Milanpur, Gouripur, Khamar Bhopla, Palashbari of Birganj of Dinajpur and Deviganj of Panchagarh were fleeing to India with their wives and children. On April 23, 1971, the allies of the invading forces caught the innocent people and gathered them on the bank of Jathibhanga river. When the Rajakars informed, the invading forces surrounded all the men and women from all sides. After that, about 3500 innocent people were killed with bullets and sharp weapons and thrown into the river. 250 women become widows in a day. This is the biggest genocide in Thakurgaon district during the liberation war.
