March 25, 2012: Construction of Liberation War Memorial 'Invincible-71'

Seventy-one is the invincible time in struggle, sacrifice and heroism. Those bright memories of the great liberation war of 1971 will inspire not only Bengalis but all freedom-loving people for ages. And so to further enhance the glory of this bloody period, the Liberation War Memorial 'Unbeatable 71' has been constructed in Thakurgaon like other parts of the country. After 42 years of independence, a memorial of the liberation war 'Invincible-71' has been built on the banks of the river Tangan near the city. The memorial was designed by engineer Shahriar Alam and the sculpture was made by Swadhin Chowdhury. The 61-foot-tall Altar of the Undefeated 71 has a length of 196 square feet. 7 steps and stairs have been placed on the altar. ESDO, a local non-government organization, has funded the 'Unbeatable-71', which was constructed at a cost of Tk 36 lakh at the initiative of the district administration. After the construction of Invincible-71, the bank of Tangan river near the city has changed. The area has developed as a place of entertainment for the people of the city in a pleasant environment.

 

March 25, 2012: ৭ Bir Shrestha's mural 'Son of the Sun'

At the initiative of the district administration, a mural called 'Surya Sontan' was erected in front of the BD Hall of the city to commemorate the hero. It was built at a cost of 6 lakh rupees. The district council funded the Sun Child sculpture.

 

February 19, 2012: Construction of Central Shaheed Minar

After 40 years of independence, the central Shaheed Minar was finally built in Thakurgaon. After a long wait, the demands of the people of the district have been met due to the determination of the Deputy Commissioner and the relentless efforts of the district administration. To make the day memorable, a reception was given to two language soldiers of the area on the opening day. They are the language warriors Dabirul Islam and Fazlul Karim. A year ago, the construction work of the Shaheed Minar was started in memory of the unknown martyrs including Salam-Barkat-Rafiq-Jabbar for the purpose of building a bridge between the generations after the history of Bengali language struggle. The construction work of the district school ground has been completed at a cost of around Tk 20 lakh from the funds collected by the local initiative. Water Resources Minister Ramesh Chandra Sen inaugurated it.

 

Thakurgaon Foundation

An organization called "Thakurgaon Foundation" has been established on the initiative and management of the Deputy Commissioner, Thakurgaon. The capital of this foundation is 18 lakh rupees. From its profits, scholarships are given to meritorious students of different educational institutions every year.
